Voucher relief for rural families - December 22, 2006

In 2006, the Salvation Army’s welfare arm was the recipient charity and benefited from $1100 worth of Coles Myer vouchers, which were distributed in the lead up to the new school year. The voucher program was co-ordinated by Pacific Seeds’ Debbie Nawrotzky.

“Each year we choose one welfare organisation which is directly involved in helping people in regional areas,” Debbie said. “In 2006, we selected the Salvos due in part to the organisation’s ability to help those in acute need and their outlets in country towns.”

While Pacific Seeds contributed to the fund pool and organised it, most of the vouchers resulted from the generosity of the company’s suppliers.

“Syngenta, Bayer Crop Science and Chemtura were all very generous and open to our request,” Ms Nawrotzky said.

“Year after year companies and people dig deep to support this initiative, for which we’re very grateful.”

Salvation Army Community Welfare Centre Manager, Carmel de Costa attended the company’s Christmas luncheon to receive the gift vouchers and to inform Pacific Seeds staff of where the gift vouchers will be spent. Many of the vouchers were put towards the cost of groceries to help free up a family’s funds for school uniform and other educational expenses.
