Company
responds to tsunami crisis - 3
February 2005
On
New Years Eve, 2004 Pacific Seeds and parent company
Advanta donated $20,000 to Care Australia 's tsunami
aid appeal.
Pacific
Seeds Managing Director, Chris Bazley said the company's
rapid response to the crisis was in part due to Pacific
Seeds staff based in effected countries. Pacific Seeds
has business arms in Sri Lanka , India and Thailand
.
"Our
quick response was brought about by our people in those
areas," Mr Bazley said.
Pacific
Seeds has a history of employing local people in the
countries in which it operates.
"Shortly
after we got the calls from our people in those areas,
we made the call to make the donation."
"We're
also looking at providing some in kind support in the
near future, through supplying seed to affected areas,
to help put some food on the table."
"This
will be decided and coordinated by Pacific Seeds people
based in those countries, after all they're the ones
who know best what will help most."
Corporate
giving, not just in times of crisis has become part
of the company's ethos. "It's part of our corporate
responsibility to make sure we spread some of the generated
funds back to the people who support us," Mr Bazley
said.
"It
boils down to being involved corporate citizens, and
making sure the communities and areas that support our
business know we appreciate them and will return that
support in whatever ways we can."
Mr
Bazley said the tsunami has been a tragedy of global
proportions and the generosity of Australians, both
private and corporate citizens, had been amazing.
"We
hope our donation adds to the pool which has been given
across Australia and the world, and goes some way towards
repairing some of the devastation, and helping the people
and countries get back on their feet again," he
said.
