Territory Manager:

Hi all,

Summer is coming to a close, giving us a mixed bag of crops. In my travels I have seen some great crops, we just need the rainfall to bring them home.

Speaking of good-looking crops, our new corn hybrids PAC M624 and PAC M904 are looking impressive in trials in my territory. At Gatton,
PAC M624 yielded 16.66 t/ha (2 irrigations), while the dryland crop yielded 10.7t/ha. At a trial in the Lockyer Valley PAC M904, with two irrigations, yielded 15.7 t/ha and a dryland crop yielded 8.5 t/ha. Watch this space for more results.

At this time of year, we are starting to cut crops for silage. Below are some points to remember to ensure you get the best results from your crop:

Pit Silage
● Quality crop, cut at the right maturity
● Clean crop with no dirt or weeds
● Correct chop lengths
● Innoculant
● Good compaction to reduce oxygen
● Covering and sealing
● Good face management

Round Bale Silage
● Quality crop, cut at the right maturity
● Clean crop with no dirt or weeds
● Innoculant
● Covering and sealing (well-wrapped)
● Repair any holes with the correct tape

As always, Pacific Seeds has excellent options for winter forage and this year it gets better with the inclusion of Pacific Ranger barley and Dawson oats.

The benefits for these two new varieties include:

Pacific Ranger
● Quick maturity for silage (85 days until head emergence)
● Fits well into a silage rotation
● One cut, high-yielding barley

Dawson
● Plant early - ideal soil temperature is 29°C and dropping
● Excellent rust resistance
● Same characteristics as Taipan

Included with our oats is Drover, an excellent variety with low management requirements. Supply of Ranger and Dawson are very tight, while Drover stocks are good at this stage.

Don’t forget our excellent wheat range. Main varieties of note are full season EGA Gregory, mid-season EGA Wylie and a quick season option is LongReach Crusader. There is more information on oats and wheat in this newsletter.

Cheers,

Jason
