Our History

The Pacific Seeds product range and history began in Central Queensland in 1962 when a leading US research firm established Pacific Seeds in Bileola to adapt and introduce safflower crops to Australian conditions.

The rich beginnings as an innovative research and development presence in Australian agriculture continue to this day with ongoing research and breeding programs in key crops, majority holding in Wheat breeding company LongReach Plant Breeders and introduction of innovative solutions to farmers.

Among notable achievements are the world first introduction of hybrid canola in 1988, releasing Australia’s first hybrid sunflower in 1974 as well is cementing its leading role in hybrid grain sorghum in the early nineties with hybrids such as MR-Buster.

Joining Advanta Seeds in 1996, and changing operating name from Pacific Seeds to Advanta Seeds in 2015, the Australian arm of the global company continues to make introduce innovative seed technologies to the market, most recently its range of Hyola hybrids featuring both Roundup Up Ready as well as Triazine Tolerant herbicide technology as well as being the first to introduce dual tolerant hybrid canola - RT into the market.
