Superdan2 technote

Hybrid overview

Superdan 2 is a late flowering sudangrass hybrid, combining high dry matter production in a plant type with more leaf and less stem. Being a sudangrass hybrid, plants are highly tillered and stems are relatively fine. These features make Superdan 2 well suited for grazing by both cattle and sheep.
The dry matter production is similar to traditional forage sorghums and superior to other sudangrass varieties, particularly under irrigation. The late flowering feature and the fine stems contribute to high feed quality being achieved in most situations. Under favourable conditions, regrowth after cutting or grazing is excellent. Being a sudan hybrid, the prussic acid content is often lower than most other hybrids. Besides grazing, Superdan 2 is also ideally suited to hay production and when cut at 1.0-1.5m, can produce hay of a quality substantially superior to typical forage sorghum hay.
