FAQs for

PAC 660

What does CRM mean, and what's the CRM of this hybrid?

Comparative Relative Maturity (CRM) is a standardised measure used to compare how long it takes different corn hybrids to reach physiological maturity—specifically, when the grain reaches black layer.

PAC 660 has a CRM rating of 120 days*, placing it in the medium to long maturity category. It’s well suited to regions with longer growing seasons, where maximising yield potential is a key priority.

*Although CRM is expressed in “days”, it’s not a literal count of calendar days. Instead, it reflects a relative measure based on accumulated heat units (growing degree days or GDDs) under standardised conditions. So, a 120 CRM hybrid like PAC 660 typically matures later than hybrids with lower CRM values, but the actual number of days to maturity can vary by environment.

What levels of stay green are in this hybrid?

PAC 660 has moderate stay-green, meaning it retains leaf area through grain fill under favourable conditions.

What is the dry down like on this hybrid?

PAC 660 has excellent grain dry-down, helping to reduce the need for artificial drying and allowing for a timely, efficient harvest – especially important in higher-yielding crops or where late-season weather risks exist.

What population should I plant this hybrid at?

A general recommendation is to plant between 60,000 and 70,000 seeds/ha. However, the optimal population will depend on your paddock conditions, soil type, and seasonal goals. For best results, consult your agronomist or Pacific Seeds technical staff to tailor the population to your farm.

Can I use 'IMI' herbicides on this hybrid?

No — PAC 660 is not part of the Imidazolinone Tolerant (IT) range, so IMI herbicides should not be used on this hybrid.

If you need IMI tolerance, look for hybrids with ‘IT’ at the end of their name, which are specifically bred to handle registered IMI herbicides.

What end uses are applicable for this hybrid?

PAC 660 is primarily suited for silage, making it a strong first-choice option for high-yielding forage systems. It can also be used for feed grain, offering flexibility depending on seasonal priorities and market demand.
