Next generation explores ag career pathways

The Agribusiness industry offers a wide variety of rewarding career paths and opportunities.

Since 2004, the Agforce School to Industry Partnership Program (SIPP) has been a conduit between Queensland primary producing agribusiness and schools (students and educators). The Program delivers a range of events and programs throughout the year for primary students, secondary students, and teachers.

On 19 July 2022, as part of the Program, Pacific Seeds provided participants with a behind the scenes tour and discussion about current and emerging jobs, skill set requirements and opportunities across the industry.

This included roles in fields such as research and development, sales, supply chain, agronomy, warehousing, dispatch, farm management and corporate teams such as marketing, finance, safety, HR and IT.

As part of the tour, the importance of being aware and open to learning about new technologies was discussed including how far the use of drones in agriculture has come over the last five years and their day-to-day use on Pacific Seeds research and breeding farms.

Another topic of interest was how careers in agribusiness can easily pivot and there were many opportunities to learn practical skills as well as to develop as a leader.
