PAC 606IT a crop variety to tackle any condition

For Scott Beaumont, a farmer and silage contractor who resides near Dorrigo, New South Wales, deciding to plant the Pacific Seeds variety of PAC 606IT wasn’t even a question.

“We’ve been planting PAC 606IT for five seasons now,” Scott said.

“It’s remained very consistent for us, regardless of whether we’re in drought or in higher rainfall throughout the year – by planting the 606IT variety, we know that we’re always going to get fair crops of corn.”

Suited to both dryland and irrigation situations, PAC 606IT corn hybrid from Pacific Seeds has been utilised across the market for both grain and silage production. Scott utilises PAC 606IT across the board for his family farm, as well as planting it for his contracting clients.

Running the family farm with his father, Scott recognised how well the PAC 606IT stood up despite having a less than spectacular season.

“Yes, we did have a pretty ordinary season,” Scott mentioned.

“It’s been pretty wet, which is not something I’d usually complain about! But it put our planting back to a much later date, and it didn’t wind up again until the middle of January, which took our optimum plant time out and shortened our season.”

“Having the cold and wet weather was an interesting combination, and it made for a very mild summer.”

Alongside their less than usual generous season, the Beaumont family ran into some trouble with the impact of fall armyworm on their crop.

“For that, we did have to get a helicopter in to spray and clear that out, which wasn’t ideal,” Scott added.

With a high disease resistance and the Imidazolinone-tolerant (IT) trait, PAC 606IT creates a solution for growers that is reliable, and has added grass weed control options, which made it an even more productive crop for the Beaumont family and Scott’s clients.

Despite these circumstances, the PAC 606IT stood the test of time as it had in previous seasons, delivering a fantastic yield result for the Beaumont family.

“Our final yield result was around 40t/hectare mark, which we were pleased with,” Scott said.

“I planted 40 hectares on my own block and 300 hectares in total including my clients.”

We would plant PAC 606IT again for sure.”
