Pacific Seeds invites you to attend the Foundation Farm inaugural Summer Field Days in February 2021.

Program

There are four days of exciting sessions to choose from. Please note: Due to Covid-19 restrictions, spots to attend each session will be limited.

Session 1: 9.00am – 12.00pm 
  • Planting and Establishment of Summer crops 
  • Training Session: Planting and successful establishment of Sorghum and Corn 
  • Update on Planter Technology: David McGavin; Precision Seeding Solutions 
  • Inspection of new Fendt Momentum planter
  • Field Walk: Planting depth, Plant spacing & uniformity, Press wheel trials 
Session 2: 1.00pm – 4.00pm 
  • Crop Management: Grain Sorghum 
  • Breeding Trials: Breeding research update, Update on heat tolerance projectDr Solomon Fekybelu 
  • Sorghum Nitrogen Management: Bede O’Mara, Technical Agronomist; Incitec Pivot 
  • Research Update: Plant population and row spacing; Trevor Philp; Summer Crop Agronomist 
  • Research Update: Managing charcoal rot: Dr Dante Adorada; USQ, Trevor Philip; Summer Crop Agronomist 

Lunch and drinks provided between sessions.

Session 3: 9.00am – 12.00pm

  • High Yielding trial agronomy session: Trevor Philip; Summer Grains Agronomist 
  • Irrigation monitoring and Canopy 
  • Temperature Sensing: Tom Dowling; Goanna Ag

Session 5: 9.00am – 12.00pm 
  • Making quality feed
  • Forage and Nutrition Management: Jordan Minniecon; Technical Services Manager, Lallemand 
  • Summer Feed Options, Yields and Quality: Chris Gillam, Territory Manager, Pacific Seeds
  • New Forage Sorghum Products
  • Biomass Yield Prediction Using Remote Sensing: Prof. Scott Chapman; University of Queensland
Session 6: 1.00pm – 4.00pm 
  • Insect Management in Corn and Sorghum
  • Fall Army Worm update: Dr Melina Miles, QDAF 
  • Managing Sorghum Midge: Dr Melina Miles, QDAF
  • Field Walk: Defoliation trial in Grain Sorghum and Corn
  • Field Walk: Sorghum Midge trial

Session 7: 9.00am – 12.00pm
  • Herbicide Management in Summer Grains and Forage Sorghum: Andrew Somervaille; Jubilee Consulting
  • Herbicide Options
  • Field Walk: Herbicide screening trial
  • Field Walk: Herbicide damage demonstration

Lunch and drinks provided after session.

Location

The Foundation Farm turn off is located approximately 2.8 kilometres (2 minute drive) south of Allora along the Warwick Allora Road in Southern Queensland. Follow the signs down the side road towards the farm and parking will be available at the main gate.

Please note there is no direct access to the Foundation Farm via Logging Road.
