Sonic –
The new wheat in town

From the northern Wheatbelt to the Great Southern, Sonic is a new quick-maturing variety delivering consistently high yields across Western Australia. Backed by local trial results since 2020, it combines a faster finish with an Australian Hard (AH) classification for premium grain quality. With broad adaptability across soil types and reliable disease resistance, Sonic is a proven performer for growers looking to optimise performance within a later sowing window.

What makes Sonic right for your farm?

Sonic offers a balance of yield, speed and quality for Western Australian conditions. It brings together quick maturity, strong disease resistance and consistent performance across variable soil types and rainfall zones.

Yield performance

Sonic is the highest-yielding quick-maturing wheat variety available to WA growers, outperforming other varieties on the market in trials since 2020. It combines early maturity with stable grain production across a wide range of environments.

Stress & disease tolerance

Sonic offers strong resistance to key Western Australian diseases, including Powdery Mildew, Yellow Leaf Spot and Septoria Nodorum. It also provides a tolerant rating for acidic soils and aluminium, and moderate tolerance to boron and alkaline conditions.

Agronomic fit

Sonic is well suited to the second half of the sowing program, maturing 6–9 days faster than typical mid-season varieties. It establishes quickly and maintains standability, supporting reliable performance in tight rotations and time-sensitive operations.

Grain quality

Sonic is classified as Australian Hard (AH), offering higher protein potential and stronger market value. Its combination of grain quality and yield performance supports profitable harvest outcomes.
