Anvil CL Plus: A High Yielding Short Season Clearfield Wheat Variety for Dependable Grain Deliveries
May 15, 2023The Anvil CL Plus wheat variety from Pacific Seeds has delivered impressive results for a Western Australian grower, Bill Waters, who manages a mixed farming operation at Murara Farm near Bindi Bindi. Australian Seed & Grain in Moora contracted Bill to grow a 36 ha production crop of Anvil CL Plus in 2022. Anvil CL Plus is ideally suited to the fast finishing, low-medium rainfall areas of WA and provides a robust grain receival package for dependable grain deliveries.
The main challenge for Bill was to find a wheat variety that would be well-suited to the fast finishing, low-medium rainfall areas of WA and provide dependable grain deliveries. He also wanted a variety that would be easy to harvest and have better yields than the previous varieties he had planted.
Anvil CL Plus proved to be the ideal solution, delivering impressive results on his farm. Despite being the last sown crop in a year that typically suits longer season varieties, it was the highest yielding out of the five varieties grown on Bill’s farm.
Anvil CL Plus, is suited to delayed sowing, allowing time for double knock weed control in problem paddocks while still providing high yield potential.
Bill was impressed with the performance of Anvil CL Plus. He found it easy to harvest and achieved harvest yield rates as high as 6.285 t/ha. Overall, the Anvil CL Plus crop delivered 5.4 t/ha with 10.9% protein (1-2% better than the other five cultivated varieties), a hectolitre weight of 81.46 kg/hL and screenings of 2.19%.
Bill was very pleased with the performance of Anvil CL Plus and plans to include it in his future crop rotations. He is keen to see how it performs the second time around.
Anvil CL Plus from Pacific Seeds has proved to be a winner. Its suitability for fast finishing, low-medium rainfall areas of WA and its ability to provide dependable grain deliveries make it an ideal choice for other farmers looking to improve their wheat crop yields.
