FAQs for PAC 220IT

Comparative Relative Maturity (CRM) is a standardised measure used to compare how long it takes different corn hybrids to reach physiological maturity – specifically, when the grain reaches black layer.

PAC 220IT has a CRM rating of 98 days*, which places it in the quick maturity category. This means it reaches maturity faster than mid or long season hybrids, making it a strong choice for shorter growing windows or where early harvest is preferred.

*Although CRM is expressed in “days”, it’s not a literal count of calendar days. Instead, it reflects a relative measure based on accumulated heat units (growing degree days or GDDs) under standardised conditions. So, a 98 CRM hybrid like PAC 220IT typically matures earlier than hybrids with higher CRM values, but the actual number of days to maturity can vary by environment.

PAC 220IT exhibits a moderate to high level of stay-green, meaning it maintains green leaf area for longer during grain fill. This helps support yield potential under moisture stress, improves harvest flexibility, and can contribute to better grain quality in tough conditions.

While dry-down can vary depending on seasonal conditions, PAC 220IT is known for its quick grain dry-down. This allows for earlier harvest opportunities and reduces the need for grain drying, helping to manage harvest timing and minimise costs.

A general recommendation is to plant between 90,000 and 100,000 seeds/ha. However, the ideal population can vary depending on your paddock conditions, management goals, and seasonal outlook. For best results, speak with your agronomist or Pacific Seeds technical staff to tailor a population that suits your farm.

Yes – PAC 220IT is part of the ‘IT’ (Imidazolinone Tolerant) hybrid range from Pacific Seeds, meaning it is tolerant to registered ‘IMI’ herbicides.

This also means you can safely plant PAC 220IT into paddocks with residual levels of IMI herbicides, provided those products were used in line with label directions.

Always ensure you’re using registered IMI herbicides for use with IT corn and follow all label and stewardship guidelines to avoid crop injury or resistance issues.

PAC 220IT is a versatile hybrid suitable for both silage and feed grain production. It offers strong whole plant digestibility and starch content for silage, while also delivering reliable grain yield and quality for livestock feed markets.
