Supporting students to pursue rewarding careers in Agriculture

APPLICATIONS OPEN SOON FOR THE 2023 SCHOLARSHIP ROUND

Students at The University of Queensland will soon be able to apply for a new $5,000 Pacific Seeds Scholarship to assist with their final year agricultural studies.

Barry Croker, Managing Director Pacific Seeds said the new scholarship would help to encourage young people to enter the agricultural industry and assist farming families with the costs associated with tertiary education.

“The federal government has set an ambitious goal to increase the farm gate value of Australia’s agricultural industry to $100 billion by 2030. In order to achieve this and continue the growth further on from 2030, it is vital we continue to encourage students to pursue the many diverse careers paths offered in Australian ag. This is one small way of contributing to this,” said Mr Croker.

“We want students to maximise their final year opportunities, so they have the right skills, practical experience and networks to support their careers and establish them as future industry leaders.”

As part of the scholarship, students also have the option to conduct practical work experience at Pacific Seeds sites located across Australia offering behind the scenes access to the latest agricultural research and technology through to business, supply chain and customer experience functions.

Professor Mark Turner, Deputy Head of School for UQ’s School of Agriculture and Food Sciences, said that the school was extremely grateful for the support of Pacific Seeds.

“This generous support helps us educate the next generation of agricultural scientists. Through partnerships like this, students can gain invaluable hands-on training and skills,” Professor Turner said.

“Agriculture is – and will continue to be – a critical area for the future and there is a need for more graduates who can deliver innovations and solutions across a wide spectrum of the agricultural industry.”

“This great scholarship will help entice and support future leaders in agricultural science.”

Applications open in February for University of Queensland students entering their final year of agricultural related studies in 2022. More information including full submission process will be released by the University of Queensland via their website in January.
